Police flood Sheffield city centre and arrest two after incident

Two men have been arrested after police flooded Sheffield city centre following reports of a disturbance among people drinking in the street.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said they were called to Fargate at 11.40am today (18 July) to reports of a disturbance involving a “small group of people”. It was reported that threats had also been made to staff at a business premises.

A photograph from the scene shows at least four police officers restraining a man on the floor.

Matthew Dyer, who witnessed the man being restrained, said: “I missed the reason for what actually happened, police had already restrained the male on the ground and then put him in the van. The suspect was shouting but I had no idea what he was saying.”

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson confirmed two people have been arrested and the group has been dispersed.
