Police find firearm while searching car in Sheffield

Police have recovered a firearm after searching a car in Sheffield.

Yesterday afternoon (Saturday, January 11) a silver Suzuki Ignis was recovered from Brincliffe Hill in the Ecclesall area after causing an obstruction.

The vehicle was found to have no keeper or insurance.

As part of enquiries to identify the owner, a search of the vehicle was carried out by South Yorkshire Police’s Fortify team- during which a firearm was discovered.

A spokesperson for the force said: “An investigation has now been launched and the firearm will be subject to a forensic examination.”
