Officers had to clear a route for ambulances to reach the dad-of-two.

He said: “Police and ambulance crews were alerted to the stabbing of Marcus Ramsay in Horninglow Road at 12.33am on Saturday, August 8.

“Police officers were on scene with Mr Ramsay in under two minutes. However officers and ambulance staff were faced with physical obstructions and hostile crowds in their efforts to reach him and other casualties.

“Mr Ramsay received emergency medical assistance from a specially trained police officer while additional resources worked tirelessly to restore public order, disperse crowds and clear a route for waiting ambulance crews.

“I estimate that around 100 people were congregated in Horninglow Road in the early hours of Saturday, and I am certain that many will hold vital information in to the altercation which led to Mr Ramsay’s death.”

Jackie Cole, Head of Operations for South Yorkshire at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said: “Our first resources arrived at a rendezvous point close to Horninglow Road in Sheffield within five minutes of the initial 999 call being made.

“Our staff were met with a very congested and hostile scene where there was a large number of people gathered and it was difficult to locate the exact position of the casualties and for our vehicles to make their way to them.

“We worked closely with police colleagues at the scene to reach patients as quickly and safely as possible.”
