Police erect huge cordon in Sheffield city centre after man spotted carrying a knife

A man was arrested in Sheffield city centre after being found with a knife.

A huge police cordon was set up around Fitzalan Square yesterday evening with two police vehicles and a Crime Scene Investigations Unit in attendance.

Numerous yellow markers can also be seen scattered around the floor.

Police said they were called just before 6.30pm yesterday evening (22 October) to reports of a man with a knife in Sheffield city centre.

A spokesperson said: “A 24-year-old man was arrested on Flat Street on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon and currently remains in police custody.

"A knife was recovered from the scene.

"A cordon was put in place while officers carried out enquiries and was removed at around 11pm.

"We have received no reports of any injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 831 of 22 October.”
