POLICE plan to step up patrols on routes popular with bikers in a bid to drive down the number of motorcyclists killed or injured on Derbyshire’s roads.

Operation Focus is to be launched on Friday and run until September to coincide with the months most bikers are on the roads.

Last year 136 motorcyclists were killed or seriously injured in Derbyshire, compared to 94 the year before.

Police will patrol the 13 roads where collisions are most common - including the A57 Snake Pass, the A621 Baslow to Owler Bar and A632 Matlock to Chesterfield.
