Police dog sniffs out sawn-off shotgun hidden underneath shrubs in Sheffield garden
There are two less guns on the streets of Sheffield today thanks to a police sniffer dog.
Police Dog Winston put his nose to the test unearthed two guns hidden in a garden on Preston Street, Sharrow, last Wednesday.
The specialist dog, trained to search for firearms, cash and weapons, was put to work in the garden while officers searched two properties which share the land.
A sawn-off shotgun was found in a green plastic bag hidden under shrubs against a wall and a second gun was found in a black plastic bag, two metres away.
The dog’s handler, PC Schofield, said: “This type of find shows how a dog’s nose is an asset in policing. A search by an officer of the area would have taken a lot longer and could have been resource intensive.“These were great finds for PD Winston.”
