Police confirm three arrests after search at Sheffield house leads to controlled explosion in city park

Police have confirmed they arrested three people on suspicion of firearms offences – after a bomb squad carried out a controlled explosion in a Sheffield park today.

Officers told The Star they recovered ‘firearms and a number of explosive devices’ during a search of a house on Whiteways Drive in Grimesthorpe on Tuesday.

Several properties on Whiteways Drive were evacuated overnight ‘as a precaution’.

An army bomb disposal unit, along with officers from South Yorkshire Police, arrived at Concord Park in Shiregreen this morning and carried out a controlled explosion.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Police remain at the property on Whiteways Drive today as searches continue.

“Two men, aged 30 and 44, and a 47-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.

“Two remain in police custody and the 30-year-old has been released under investigation.”
