Police confirm murder investigation after Sheffield dad-of-two shot dead

Police have launched a murder investigation after a solicitor and dad-of-two was shot dead close to Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium.

Officers flooded Clough Road at around 9.40pm on Saturday following reports of shots being fired.

Khuram Javed, aged 30, was found at the scene with life-threatening injuries consistent with firearms discharge and pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Detective chief inspector Michael Hakin from South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers have been carrying out extensive enquiries overnight and we can now confirm that we are investigating a murder following a firearms discharge in Clough Road, Sheffield.

“The investigation is still in its early stages, but our enquiries continue at pace. A significant number of officers remain in the area. No arrests have been made at this time.”

Mr Javed was a University of Sheffield law graduate who worked as a solicitor at a local law firm on nearby London Road.

On Sunday morning, mourners gathered by a footpath adjacent to St Mary’s Church where a police tent and screen had been erected to pay their respects and lay flowers.

Detective chief inspector Hakin added: “I would urge anyone with information about what happened to come forward. If you think you might have witnessed the incident or if you saw or heard anything suspicious, please speak to us.

“I am acutely aware that this incident may be distressing to the local community. Please be assured that we have deployed additional resources to the area, and our specialist team continues to carry out enquiries to locate those responsible.”
