South Yorkshire Police has confirmed that the presence of armed police at a major Sheffield road earlier today was to act on a ‘pre-planned’ warrant.

Witnesses reported that a number of police cars, along with two police vans and sniffer dogs were seen at the scene at Rehman’s butchers on Abbeydale Road around 2pm this afternoon (April 12).

Officers wearing PPE were seen entering the property, and a video shows a handcuffed person being put into the back of a car.

Police told The Star that their presence on Abbeydale Road was down to a ‘pre-planned warrant’.

A pre-planned warrant means that the police activity is not in response to a 999 call.

Warrants can be applied for to allow police to search premises where officers have reason to believe criminal activity may have taken place.

The police said that no further information about why this warrant had been issued could be given at this time.
