Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on September 30 how Jan Holub, aged 20, and Becky Leanne Spurr, aged 31, both of Grosvenor Road, Eastwood, Rotherham, were stopped on Meadowhall Road, Sheffield, in July, and found with items stolen from Ikea and Wilko’s.

Chantel Lowery-Green, prosecuting, said Holub had previously stolen razors and grooming products from a Boots store, at Meadowhall, in May, and this offence was captured on CCTV and he had been released before he committed the thefts from Ikea and Wilko’s with Spurr.

Holub pleaded guilty to the theft from Boots and to the two thefts involving bedding from Ikea and cosmetics from Wilko’s.

Spurr also admitted the two thefts from Wilko’s and Ikea and admitted breaching a conditional discharge imposed in February for a shop theft.

Pari Seeley, defending, said Spurr has revealed she is addicted to class A drugs and wants help.

Ms Seeley added Holub is a clever young man but he got involved with heroin and has been dragged back into drug abuse though he is currently on a methadone prescription.

Holub, who has a criminal record, committed these offences after he had been released from prison, had been homeless and had relapsed into drugs, according to Ms Seeley.

Magistrates sentenced Spurr to a 12-month community order with drug and rehabilitation activity requirements. She must pay £85 costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

Magistrates adjourned Holub’s case until November 27 to consider a probation report before sentencing.
