Police bust hundreds of illegal cannabis farms

POLICE discovered 222 cannabis farms in Derbyshire last year, according to new figures.

Inside the drug dens, officers found a total of 17,642 cannabis plants being cultivated.

Between April 2011 and March this year, 2,768 drugs offences were recorded in the county.

There were 2,615 offences recorded in the same period the year before.

Officers in Chesterfield arrested a 40-year-old man on Monday after raiding a property on John Street, Clowne, and finding cannabis plants.

He has been charged with the production of cannabis and will appear at magistrates court shortly.
