Police arrest five people in connection to racially aggravated assault in Sheffield

Officers have arrested four men from Sheffield and a woman in connection with a racially aggravated assault that happened in the city centre on June 13.
Footage of the assault that took place at around 6pm last Saturday circulated social media, showing a group of people fighting in the street with a bystander shouting “Oh my god, let’s the call the police.”

Hide AdFour men, aged 21, 31, 56 and 57 were arrested today, alongside a 19-year-old woman, on suspicion of racially aggravated violent disorder and remain in custody.
It comes after a 55-year-old man was assaulted on June 13, when a group of people were walking past Yates on Cambridge Street in the city centre, were confronted by another group.
The group allege that a group of men started shouting racist remarks at them before the 55-year-old man was ‘punched in the face’.
In the video, which was posted to Twitter, a woman is heard screaming before a man appears to be knocked to the ground.

Hide AdThere have now been eight people arrested in connection with this racially aggravated crime.
The two 27-year-old men who were arrested by officers at the scene on Saturday remain on police bail, alongside a 28-year-old man who was arrested on Monday, June 15 but has since been released on bail.
Police urge anyone with information about the crime to call 101 and quote incident number 670.
