Chief Superintendent Stuart Barton, District Commander for Sheffield, said although there had been some problems, this was only occurring by a ‘small few’.

Speaking at the South Yorkshire Police & Crime Commissioner Public Accountability Board meeting Chf Supt Barton said: “We’ve had some issues regarding Covid-19 compliance as people will be aware from the media in Page Hall.

“That being said, these are a small few and the team have done a fantastic job in engaging and educating by using translators and students trying to get the message out there.”

He said the force still have ‘some issues’ in the Burngreave area and more detailed plans to tackle disruption in the community will become a focal point in the coming months.

The neighbourhood team has met with others in the community to address serious violent incidents and tackle other issues such as fly-tipping and litter with the council.

The comments come after three men were taken to hospital following a shooting in the area on Grimesthorpe Road on May 8.

Further shootings took place closely after in the Nether Edge and Sharrow areas.

“We’ve still got some issues around Burngreave that we know and have been rightly highlighted within the violence reduction profile and it’s an area we do need to work on going forward over the next few months,” Chf Supt Barton told the meeting.

“We met as a community safety partnership around Burngreave and what more we can do to try and tackle some of the underlying issues. Not just around violence but around fly-tipping and litter. This is something I’m keen to work on with the council.

“I am blessed in Burngreave with Sergeant Ben Hall who is a very proactive individual out on the streets checking people taking positive action where he needs to. We have a strong, healthy and productive team and we have the right people working in that area.”
