Two men, aged 35 and 51, were arrested on suspicion of child abduction on Sunday after the disappearance of a four-year-old girl from the Brunswick Road area of Burngreave.

They spent yesterday in custody as detectives worked on the case.

The disappearance of the young girl was reported to the police just after 6.30pm and the missing child was found around 45 minutes later at an address on nearby Spital Road.

Detective Inspector Eleanor Welsh said: “We would like to reassure our communities that this appears to be an isolated incident at this time, however, I would like to ask that anyone who saw anything or may have information that could assist the investigation to please get in touch.”

Officers remained in Burngreave yesterday as police enquiries into the disappearance continued.
