Police advice to reduce crimes

THREE Police Community Support Officers working in Sheffield city centre have been trained to give crime prevention advice to burglary victims to avoid them being targeted again.

The officers are sent out to crime scenes to provide one-to-one advice and support to victims when they report a break-in.

To help reduce burglaries police officers have been patrolling the city centre looking for vulnerable properties with valuables left on display and homes left insecure.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Any deterrents possible, such as lights being left on in the evening, security lights, house alarms and CCTV cameras, will assist in preventing burglaries and will also provide peace of mind that a property is secure.”
