Police Community Support Officers are ‘adopting’ post offices in Rotherham to offer crime prevention advice.
The scheme, backed by Rotherham Older People’s Forum and Age UK, is also aimed at providing reassurance to elderly customers concerned about their safety.
It was launched at the Bellow Road Post Office in Rawmarsh and could be rolled out across the county.
Chief Superintendent Jason Harwin, Rotherham’s District Commander, said: “We are always striving to improve the service we give to the people of Rotherham and I hope that by having a presence in local post offices, the more vulnerable members of our community feel reassured and better informed about crime and safety issues.”
A Post Office spokesman said: “The Post Office remains at the heart of communities, and we are happy to provide locations in Rotherham for the police to utilise in terms of liaising with customers and conveying key security messages.”
