A BLAZE at a South Yorkshire farm which killed 40 pigs and left more badly burned was started deliberately, an investigation has revealed.

The fire at Wood Laithes Farm, Doncaster Road, Ardsley, Barnsley, broke out in the early hours of Tuesday last week when 1,600 bales of hay went up in flames.

When firefighters arrived the blaze had spread to a nearby building containing 500 pigs. There was an emergency evacuation of the building and crews spent two-and-a-half days tackling the flames.
