Pictures released of three men after racist attack in Sheffield city centre

An investigation has been launched by South Yorkshire Police following an alleged racially aggravated assault in Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police have released the images of three individuals they are hoping to speak to following reports into an alleged racially aggravated assault in the Barkers Pool area of Sheffield.

It is reported that a 19-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man were walking past Yates public house on Cambridge Street in Sheffield City Centre when a large group of men began shouting racist remarks at around 6 pm on June 13.

An altercation then took place during which the 55-year-old man was allegedly attacked and punched in the face. He did not require hospital treatment.

Police are keen to identify the individuals pictured as they may hold vital information, and are also appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Kevin Smith, the investigating officer, said: “This attack has left the victims extremely shaken and we need to make it very clear this this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in Sheffield or across South Yorkshire.

“Since the incident was reported we have carried out numerous enquiries including speaking to people who were in the area at the time, as well as extensive analysis of CCTV footage.

“A 27-year-old man from Sheffield who was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault in connection with this incident and 27-year-old man from Barnsley arrested on suspicion of assault have both been released on bail.
