Photos from the anti-gang violence protest in Sheffield

Yesterday (May 22) dozens of protestors turned out to call for greater response from police and politicians to the issue of gang violence, and the grooming of children by gangs, in Sheffield.

The protestors met at Heeley People’s Park and marched to Highfield adventure playground, where speakers highlighted the fears parents have over their children being victims of, or becoming involved with gangs.

The protest was organised by Mums United, a campaign group that aims to provide support for families fearing the impact of gangs.

Jennifer Dunstan, one of the organisers said: “Every time we hear another report that somebody has been stabbed or shot our hearts break a little bit more. We know that there is a family of a victim who are hurting, and also the family of the perpetrator.

“Who is going to step up in Sheffield? From which organisation or political party will they be? Who is going to provide the care that the under-18s in this city need?”

These photos show the protest as it made its was through the city.
