Sheffield Crown Court heard on September 7 how Michael Kenneth Wilson, aged 37, was trapped by a paedophile hunter group which posed with fake child profiles including an 11-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl during online conversations.

Gordon Stables, prosecuting, said Wilson attempted to communicate with the two contacts by sending messages.

Mr Stables added Wilson asked the 11-year-old decoy what she slept in and asked about panties and discussed sex and sexual pictures before sending her a picture supposedly of himself during sex.

Wilson also sent videos to the 12-year-old decoy and engaged in conversations about sex, according to Mr Stables.

Mr Stables said one of the paedophile hunter group contacted Wilson as an adult and told him they wanted to meet for sex and they met on Bawtry Road, Doncaster, on March 14, 2018, where the defendant was detained by the group.

Judge Sarah Wright told Wilson: “You should be thoroughly ashamed of this behaviour and, from your demeanour in court, you do feel rightly and deeply ashamed.”

Wilson, of Grange Estate, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. He also admitted three counts of making indecent images of children involving category A, B and C images after his mobile phone was analysed. The offences were committed between February and March, 2018.

Pamela Coxon, defending, said that although Wilson had been in a sexually fulfilling relationship he had sought further gratification.

Wilson had only been contacting people who had been pretending to be children and he would never have met a child for sexual gratification, according to Ms Coxon.

Ms Coxon added that when Wilson was detained by the paedophile hunter group the meeting was live-streamed and the personal consequences for the defendant have been enormous.

Wilson was sentenced to 12 months of custody suspended for two years with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement. He was also placed on a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and made subject to the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register for ten-years.
