Police say the two disturbances are currently being treated as “connected.”

The latest incident is believed to have broken out after a collision on Owler Lane around 4.30pm this afternoon (Tuesday, August 4, 2026).

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said tonight: “Around 4.30pm today (4 August) we were called to reports of a collision between a silver Volkswagen Passat and a pedestrian on Owler lane.

“It is further reported that the occupants got out of the car and assault a man with metal bars. It is also reported that a large group of people gathered at the same time.

“Officers attended and the group dispersed. Two men received serious injuries and have been transported to hospital...Owler Lane is currently closed and a scene is in place while officers conduct their work. Enquiries are ongoing to locate and arrest the people involved.”

Detailing last night’s incident, the SYP spokesperson continued: “At 10.15pm yesterday (3 August), we were called to reports of a disturbance between a large group of people on Willboughby Street.

“It is reported that members of the group had wooden bats. Officers attended and the group dispersed.

“One woman sustained minor injuries which required hospital treatment. She has since been discharged.

“A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.”

There will be an increased police presence in the Page Hall area of Sheffield throughout the night, the SYP spokesperson confirmed.

The SYP spokesperson said: “Our officers will remind in the area into the night and through the coming days.

“If you have any concerns, please do stop and speak to them.”

In addition, a Section 60 order has been put in place for the next 22 hours.

It gives police officers temporary authority to stop and search any person or vehicle within a specific geographic area without needing standard reasonable suspicion.

The SYP spokesperson added: “This power is legally activated under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. It is used strictly to prevent serious violence, find dangerous weapons, and keep local communities safe following an incident or intelligence.

“The power is currently in place in the Page Hall area of Sheffield and will be in place until 7.40pm tomorrow (August 5, 2026).

“While the order is active, officers can search anyone inside the designated boundary to check for weapons. Members of the public can expect an increased police presence, but are reassured that these measures are in place exclusively to ensure public safety and deter crime.”

Anyone with information that could help officers with their enquiries is asked to call 101 or report it to them online.
