Teams of officers took tens of thousands of pounds worth of drugs off the streets in South Yorkshire over the last seven days after they carried out targeted searches in areas of Sheffield and Rotherham.

Police carried out seven simultaneous warrants on Monday, November 30 over the two districts and found suspected cocaine with a street value of £10,000 and over £30,000 in cash from two addresses.

Officers arrested two men, aged 45 and 31 alongside a 30-year-old woman on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

The three suspects have since been released by police under investigation.

Less than 24 hours after the first raid, officers in Rotherham conducted another warrant in Church Street, Swinton and discovered £32,000 worth of suspected crack cocaine and heroin.

Police carried out the pre-planned activity under the Misuse of Drugs Act which aims to prevent controlled drugs being distributed and enforces a total ban on the possession, supply, manufacture, import and export of controlled substances except as allowed by regulations or by licence from the Secretary of State.

Two men, aged 61 and 31, were arrested in connection with the find and have since been charged with drugs trafficking offences.

Terrence Hughes and Anthony Hughes, both of Church Street, were charged with possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine.

The pair will next appear before court on January, 6 2021.
