An on-the-run-barrister from Sheffield, wanted over a sex attack, has been arrested.
Desmond Rosario, aged 46, was arrested in the Birmingham area at around 11pm last night.
A warrant for his arrest was issued in June when he failed to turn up for a hearing at Leicester Magistrates’ Court after he was charged with a serious sexual assault.
He is alleged to have attacked a teenage girl in Sheffield in October, last year.
Rosario is due to appear before Leicester magistrates today.
Police chiefs in South Yorkshire gave the go-ahead for his disappearance to be featured on the BBC’s Crimewatch programme last week in a bid to help track him down.
An initial eight calls were made to the show on the night, which detectives said ’provided several lines of enquiry to pursue’.
Before the show detectives revealed that they believed Rosario could have been using aliases, including David D’Cruz or Desmond David Luc D’Cruz.
They also thought he may have been travelling through Europe or Canada looking for work in the legal profession.
Rosario studied law at the University of Sheffield and was called to the bar in 1990.
