DETECTIVES investigating a report of a serious sexual assault in Sheffield say they have not found any evidence yet of an offence having been committed.

The allegation was made by a woman who visited Page Hall Medical Centre on Owler Lane with concerns she had been assaulted.

Officers immediately cordoned off an area of grassland near Fir Vale School, between Rushby Street and Earl Marshal Road, and carried out door to door inquiries.

They also asked local businesses if they had CCTV footage of the scene.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Inquiries are ongoing as to the circumstances of this report, which led to police attendance in the area. No offences have yet been identified from the inquiries carried out and there is no information at this stage that should cause concern for local residents.”

The report was made on Tuesday morning.
