Nice weather for thieves

Have your say

POLICE are warning residents to be on their guard against thieves and burglars taking advantage of the warmer weather.

Officers are urging people to lock their doors and windows at all times after an elderly couple’s home was burgled while they were in their garden.

Cash was taken from the house on Queen Victoria Road, New Tupton, Chesterfield, after a side door was left unlocked.

Inspector Michelle Shooter said: “During warm sunny weather lots of people leave their doors ajar and windows open while they are in the garden - an invitation for sneak in thieves

“I would like to remind residents to keep windows and doors locked when they are outside or in another part of the property. By using a little common sense and taking crime reduction advice seriously we can prevent most summer burglaries.”

Anyone with information about the break-in between 11am and 3pm on Friday, April 15 should call Derbyshire Police on 0345 1233333.
