An NHS worker has told of her devastation after her treasured bike was stolen outside a Sheffield hospital.

Rayna Foletti had finished a busy eight-hour shift as a nurse support facilitator at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on Monday when she discovered her black and white Cannondale bike was gone.

The 54-year-old had ridden it to work on Monday morning and left it in a bike shed outside the hospital – but unbeknown to her at the time, one of the entrances wasn’t secure.

Rayna, who lives in Sheffield, told The Star: “I was absolutely devastated when I realised it had been stolen.

“I went into a state of shock.

“Whoever did this is scum of the earth – they are the lowest of the low.

“It makes you sick to think there are people like that targeting those who are working in a hospital during a pandemic.

“I’m still so upset.”

Rayna added: “I expected it to be safe in the bike shed – but they got in through a non-secure entrance which I didn’t know about, cut through the thick lock and made off with my bike.

“I loved that bike – I bought it for £800 in 2013 and really cared for it over the years.

“I’m now having to drive to and from work and I’m really missing the exercise.”

Rayna said she reported the crime to South Yorkshire Police but didn’t expect investigations to progress due to a lack of CCTV evidence.

Anyone with information about the offence is urged to call the force on 101.
