POLICE are hunting armed robbers who struck at a petrol station in Barnsley as the cash machine was being stocked.

Officers were called to the Shell filling station, Sheffield Road, Birdwell, at 10.45am yesterday after two men wearing dark clothing threatened staff refilling the ATM.

Police said they escaped with a ‘large amount of cash’. They sped away in a vehicle which had been parked on Rockley Avenue.

Body identified

THE body of a man found in a field near Ulley Reservoir has been formally identified as that of 71-year-old Baden Powell, who went missing last month. Mr Powell, from Tinsley, discharged himself from Rotherham Hospital on Sunday, February 19, a few hours after collapsing in The Rhino pub in Rotherham. His body was located by officers in the police helicopter four days later. Tests revealed he died from natural causes. No inquest will be held.
