ARMED police carried out a search of the area around Don Valley Stadium at Attercliffe, Sheffield, after officers received reports that a man had been seen in the area with a gun, at 8.30pm on Monday, but there were no signs of a suspect.

Car set alight

A VAUXHALL went up in flames after a cigarette was not properly extinguished inside. The car caught fire after being parked on Straight Lane, Goldthorpe, Barnsley, on Monday night. Arsonists set fire to a Vauxhall Corsa on New Cross Way, Woodhouse, Sheffield, at 4.30am yesterday and a VW Passat on George Place, Mexborough.

Industrial scare

FIREFIGHTERS were called to Firth Rixon on Meadowhall Road, Sheffield, after fire broke out in an oil quenching tank. No steelworkers were injured in the incident on Tuesday.

Crash escape

A TEENAGE motorist overturned her Renault Clio after losing control on East Bank Road, Arbourthorne, Sheffield. She was already out when emergency services arrived.

Cannabis find

POLICE found 12 cannabis plants and hydroponic growing equipment during a raid of a house in the Dodworth Road area of Barnsley. Officers arrested a man in his 30s.

Chip-pan blaze

OCCUPANTS of a house on Queen Victoria Road, Totley, Sheffield, escaped unharmed after a chip pan broke out in their kitchen at 8pm on Tuesday.

Motorway fire

SMOKE drifted across the M1 when two bales of hay were set alight in a field near the M18 slip road leading to the northbound stretch.

TRADERS in Barnsley have been visited by police officers to discuss ways of reducing shoplifting in town centre shops.

SIXTY solar panels have been installed at Chesterfield’s Crematorium – before the Government’s deadline to reduce feed-in tariffs. The equipment will produce enough electricity a year to save £800 from the crematorium’s annual energy bill.
