NEWS IN BRIEF: Pedestrian struck by car crossing road

A PEDESTRIAN suffered a fractured skull after he was struck by a car as he crossed a road.

The 21-year-old, from, Newcastle upon Tyne, was crossing Whinby Road, Dodworth, when he was involved in a collision with a blue Ford Ka travelling towards the M1 motorway at 9.45pm on Thursday.

Police said the pedestrian was taken to Barnsley District General Hospital for treatment for his head injury while the motorist involved, a 41-year-old woman from Wakefield escaped unhurt.

Witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw the pedestrian or the car beforehand should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 1,060 of January 19.

Six bins set alightSIX wheelie bins were set alight in an arson attack on Colley Crescent, Parson Cross, Sheffield, on Thursday night.

At Manor Park a storage shed on an allotment was destroyed when it was set alight by arsonists at 3am yesterday. Firefighters were informed of the blaze on Skye Edge Road but were unable to save the shed.
