NEWS IN BRIEF: Man left chip pan on while shopping

A MAN who left his chip pan on while he popped out to the local shop returned to find a fire.

Oil in the pan caught fire in the property on Byron Road, Dinnington, Rotherham, but the flames had not spread. The man managed to extinguish the blaze himself before firefighters arrived at 8.30pm on Wednesday.

THE police helicopter flew over Worsbrough, Barnsley, in the early hours of yesterday looking for a driver who abandoned a car after a collision. The chopper was also called to Catcliffe the same morning to look for a motorcyclist who tried to escape from traffic officers. He was located.

TWO lanes of the M1 in South Yorkshire will be closed on the north and southbound carriageways tomorrow for resurfacing and barrier renewal work between junction 32 at Thurcroft and junction 33 at Catcliffe, between 9pm tomorrow and 6am on Sunday.

LEIGHTON Road, Gleadless Valley, Sheffield, was closed in the early hours of Wednesday when a man collapsed and fell into the road. He was taken to hospital.
