A MAN has been arrested and bailed in connection with a terrifying rape attack on a woman in Sheffield.

The 39-year-old suspect was questioned by detectives before being released pending further enquiries.

The alleged victim, aged 48, was befriended by two men during a night out at the West Street Live venue in Sheffield city centre last October.

They ‘shepherded’ the woman, who has communication difficulties, outside the venue at 2am before taking her to a nearby house where she was repeatedly raped by both men.

She was then driven to Burngreave where she reported the incident to a local shopkeeper.

The arrest was made yesterday, prompted by an appeal which featured on the front page of The Star.

A number of new leads are now being followed up by detectives.
