NEWS IN BRIEF: Glossop Road shut for repair work

WORK to complete the rebuilding of Glossop Road in Broomhill, Sheffield, after its collapse last autumn, means it will be closed for five hours tonight. The street will be shut between 7pm and midnight so supporting blocks below a new retaining wall can be removed. The road will reopen with a 20 tonne weight limit till the end of March, until final strengthening work is finished.

Cyclist still poorly

A CYCLING pensioner from Sheffield, who was seriously injured in a collision between his bike and a 4x4, is still in hospital. The 79-year-old was airlifted to hospital after the crash on the A616 between Creswell and Clowne at 7.30am on Tuesday.

Girl knocked down

A SCHOOLGIRL aged 11 suffered a suspected broken leg after being hit by a Honda Accord car outside Brinsworth Comprehensive School in Rotherham yesterday afternoon. The girl was taken to hospital at around 3pm.
