NEWS IN BRIEF: Five people hurt in motorway pile-up

FIVE people needed hospital treatment after a four-vehicle pile-up on the M1 as vehicles tried to avoid debris.

It happened at 9.45am yesterday on the southbound carriageway near Thorpe Hesley, when a van swerved, resulting in a collision involving three cars. A 42-year-old woman suffered a broken toe and cuts. Two women aged 39 and 32 were treated for shock. A woman aged 77 and an 82-year-old man suffered shock and chest injuries. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Foul play ruled out

POLICE ruled out foul play after the body of a 40-year-old man, who has not been named, was found in a property Bartholomew Street, Wombwell, at 5.40am on Friday, September 14. A spokeswoman said: “Police are not treating this death as suspicious.”

Car overturns

TWO men were taken to hospital after their car overturned on Cawthorn Road, Barugh Green, Barnsley 7pm on Wednesday. One suffered head injuries and the other had a shoulder injury.
