NEWS IN BRIEF: Firefighters battle two factory blazes

FOUR fire engines rushed to a blaze at a former umbrella factory in Sheffield last night.

Firefighters were called to the old SR Gent building on East Bank Road, Arbourthorne, at 5.30pm. The blaze was said to still be ‘well alight’ an hour later.

Firefighters battled to save another Sheffield factory after a blaze broke out in an oil quenching tank and threatened to spread to the rest of the building. Crews called to the blaze at Lelcher Engineering, Fell Street, Grimesthorpe, managed to put out the flames.

Arrest after fire

CANNABIS was found growing in a bedroom blaze in Colt Field, Birdwell, Barnsley. Equipment used to cultivate the crop had caught fire, damaging the room and smoke-logging the property’s top floor. Police made one arrest.

Landrover damage

A LAND Rover Discovery parked outside a house on Barrow Street, Staveley, North Derbyshire, had its paintwork scratched and a wheel set alight at 2.30am on Sunday.
