NEWS IN BRIEF: Couple attacked in their own home

A MAN and women were attacked and threatened by masked men with knives who burst into their home.

The married couple, both 62, were confronted by three men dressed in dark clothesg, who punched them and stole cash, jewellery and watches at their home in Church Lane, Heath, near Chesterfield.

The men stole the couple’s black Volkswagen Scirocco car, registration YR11 HJV sometime between 8.20pm and 8.40pm on Friday, January 6.

Anyone with information is asked to call Derbyshire Police on 101.

Mr Martin: apology

On Saturday The Star published a report into the death of Stephan Martin that contained a number of mistakes.

In addition, the caption underneath the photograph was incorrect, referring to the two children as his sons, which was not the case.

We would like to apologise to the family of Mr Martin for the upset and distress this has caused them and their friends.

Police arson hunt

POLICE are looking for the culprit responsible for starting a fire in the lounge of a house on Hatfield House Croft, Shiregreen, Sheffield. Firefighters were called out to extinguish the flames.

Mattress on fire

A MATTRESS dumped in a skip on Gervase Avenue, Lowedges, Sheffield, was set alight at 7.30pm on Sunday. Firefighters were called out to the incident.

Bins in flames

AN arson attack was to blame for a bin store going up in flames on Hounsfield Road, East Herringthorpe, Rotherham. Firefighters tackled the blaze.

Home blaze

AN unoccupied house on Lindsay Avenue, Lane Top, Sheffield, went up in flames after a front bedroom was set alight.

Robbery charge

A MAN, aged 34, has been charged with robbery following a raid.

The incident happened at the Co-op Travel store in Twentywell Lane, Bradway, Sheffield, on December 6.

The accused man has been remanded in custody pending a trial.
