POLICE are treating a Vauxhall Vectra car fire in Barnsley as arson in Warren Crescent, Worsbrough Common, at around midnight on Monday. No one was injured.
Go-kart on fire
FIREFIGHTERS from Chesterfield were called to Highbury Road in the town after a child’s motorised go-kart was reported to be on fire. They arrived shortly after 6.35am on Tuesday morning and quickly dealt with the blaze which they say had been caused deliberately. Police are investigating.
POLICE are investigating the cause of a blaze which is believed to have been started deliberately in Chesterfield. Fire crews from Staveley discovered a large unattended bonfire on land off Works Road in Hollingworth at around 7.40pm on Monday. Firefighters wearing water-back packs quickly brought the blaze under control. No one was injured.
WORK on high voltage power lines is set to cause delays for motorists on the M1 motorway south of Sheffield. National Grid is carrying out the project on Sunday, July 31, between 5am to 8am on Sunday morning, between junctions 29a to 31 for both north and southbound traffic. A second phase of work will mean a rolling road blocks, the second being on Sunday, 25 September.

a SOUTH Yorkshire Labour MP is calling on the Government to take action to help struggling high streets - after revealing 28 per cent of stores in his town are empty. Kevin Barron, who represents Rother Valley, said Rotherham has the highest proportion of unused outlets among ‘large’ shopping areas in the UK.
POLICE are investigating after a motorised scooter was deliberately set on fire in Handswroth Grange Road, Handsworth, at 10.40pm on Tuesday night. Firefighters from Mansfield Road attended and quickly brought the blaze under control.
Audi in flames
AN Audi A4 was deliberately set on fire on waste ground off Pitt Street in the Holmes area of Rotherham at around 4.30am on Wednesday morning. The blaze was attended by officers from Rotherham station. Police are investigating.
