The Attorney General has ordered the Crown Prosecution Service to investigate whether criminal offences have been committed in relation to identifying the victim in the Ched Evans rape case.
Jeremy Wright QC has also asked North Wales Police to look into whether material served during the court case in 2012 has been dealt with ‘properly’.
The former Sheffield United striker was released from prison in October halfway through a five year prison sentence imposed after he was found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman in a hotel.
Since Evans’ conviction, his victim, who has a legal right to anonymity for life, has moved home five times after online trolls repeatedly tracked her down and revealed her new identity.
Evans maintains his innocence.
