New police HQ a step closer

POLICE chiefs in South Yorkshire hope to have their new headquarters building fully open by October next year.

The plan is to move the HQ from Snig Hill in Sheffield city centre to the former Abbey National call centre at Carbrook.

The force bought the building for around £5 million, using cash raised by selling off old disused buildings.

Time scales for converting the building have been agreed and a special group has been set up to oversee the project.

About 300 members of staff will move to the new HQ.
