Neighbours speak of their shock after shooting on 'quiet' Sheffield street
Neighbours have spoken of their shock after a shooting on a 'quiet' Sheffield street.
Armed police were called to Manor Lane on the Manor estate at around 12.30am on Tuesday morning to reports shots had been fired at a house.
On arrival, officers found damage to the windows of a property on the road and sealed off the area. The occupants of the house were found unharmed nearby.
An increased police presence was in evidence on the estate this morning, as officers conducted house to house enquiries and searched the area.
Neighbours in the area expressed their shock at the shooting, which many described as out of character for a ‘generally quiet’ part of the Manor estate.
But one man, who did not want to be named, said armed police had raided the same house just last week, at the same time as another property on the estate was searched by officers.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “There is an increased police presence in the Manor area of Sheffield today after a reported firearms discharge in the early hours of this morning.
“At 12.30am, police received reports of shots being fired towards a property in Manor Lane.
“Armed police were immediately deployed to the area and found evidence of a firearms discharge, with damage to the windows of the property. The occupants of the address were all located safe and well nearby.
“A cordon remains in place today as uniformed officers carry out door to door and forensic enquiries.”
Senior investigating officer, DCI Paul Murphy, added: “We hope the presence of our officers provides reassurance to the community today as we progress our inquiry.
“I am asking local residents to work with us on this investigation, and report any information they hold. If you have any concerns or questions, please call us or speak to one of the officers on patrol.”
Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident 18 of May 11.
The shooting is the twelvth to take place in Sheffield this year and comes just one day after a man was reportedly seen with a gun on the Ponderosa park in Upperthorpe.
