‘My heart goes out to him’: Sheffield MP brands shooting of innocent boy, 12, ‘despicable’

Louise Haigh MP, Labour’s Member of Parliament for Sheffield Heeley, spoke out after a young boy was shot in his leg in Arbourthorne yesterday afternoon.

The youngster was hit after a gun was fired though the window of a white car as it passed a group of adults and children in the street at around 3.45pm.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident.

M Haigh said: “This despicable shooting of a 12-year-old boy will have shocked many in our community.

“It is an unthinkable attack and I am in constant contact with the police to ensure they are doing all they can to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“My heart goes out to the young boy and I wish him well in his recovery."

The MP added: “In the coming days and weeks the local community will see the police significantly stepping up patrols to help ensure the safety and security of the whole community.

“I urge anyone with any information to contact the police; only with your support and cooperation can we bring those who carried out this despicable attack to justice.”

There have been al least eight shootings in South Yorkshire over the last eight days.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 516 of January 12.
