Murder investigation launched after man in his 40s found dead in Sheffield flat

Police have launched a murder investigation after a 49-year-old man was found dead inside a flat in Sheffield on Friday.

Emergency services were called to a flat on Gell Street, Broomhall – close to West Street – shortly after 5am after receiving reports that a man was unresponsive.

He was sadly pronounced dead when paramedics arrived.

Police said “extensive enquiries” are now underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death. A 51-year-old man, who was present at the flat on Friday morning, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A post-mortem examination on the deceased is expected to take place later today (May 16). No further details are known at this stage.
