Murder investigation launched after man dies following Sheffield 'fight'

Police have launched a murder investigation after a 53-year-old man died from a serious head injury he sustained in a ‘fight’ in Sheffield.

On Friday 15 May between 9pm and 10pm, officers responded to calls from members of the public reporting a group of men fighting on Longley Hall Way in Sheffield.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a man who had suffered a serious head injury.

The man was taken to hospital in Sheffield to receive treatment but died this morning (May 19).

Two men from Sheffield, aged 43 and 44, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and subsequently bailed pending further enquiries. Today, they have both been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector James Axe, investigating, said: “My priority is to ensure we gather as much information as possible about the events leading up to this incident, and what happened immediately after. Were you on Longley Hall Way or in the surrounding area between 8pm and 11pm, did you hear or see anything that may help with this investigation?

“We know there was a large group of people who witnessed this incident – if you were there please do get in touch and let us know what you saw.

“Did you capture any people or vehicles on your CCTV cameras or dash cams? Even something that seems insignificant or routine could be vital to our investigation.”
