South Yorkshire’s roads policing team issued the reminder today after five motorists were each caught at speeds of over 90mph.

In a statement, the team said patrols are still being carried out despite less traffic on the roads due to the coronavirus lockdown.

The team said: “There are still some drivers who believe buffoonery is the best way ahead.

“Yes there’s less traffic on the roads, yes we are helping the NHS by staying at home, but no the motorway network is not a racetrack where you can put your own life and that of others at risk by speeding.

“In the course of a few hours earlier in the week two of our finest went onto the motorway network. Needless to say it didn’t take long. Five motorists were given Traffic Offence Reports for speeding, all doing in excess of 90mph.”
