Motorbike thief burgled ex’s home while on bail

CCTV cameras recorded Aaron Burton taking a £4,500 Yamaha motorbike off the owner's drive, at 1.30pm, on January 23, last year, said prosecutor Gurdial Singh.

The bike was later recovered but it had sustained £1,000 of damage, and when Burton was arrested he gave a no-comment interview to police.

He broke into his former partner's home and stole £60 in cash from her, on June 21. On July 15 he broke into a shed where another Yamaha motorbike was stored, causing extensive damage, the court heard.

And on September 15, he smashed the woman's front door and grabbed her by the chin.

The court heard he has six previous convictions for criminal damage, vehicle taking and battery.

Richard Canning, mitigating, said the defendant was 17 when most of the offending took place.

Burton, 18, of no fixed abode, previously admitted two counts of burglary, damaging property, assault and theft of a vehicle.

Judge Sarah Wright handed him five months for the burglary and added three months for the other offences, to run concurrently.

Because of the time he has already served on remand Burton will be eligible for immediate release.

A two-year restraining order, banning him from contacting his ex-partner, was also imposed.

The judge warned him: "Breach of the restraining order carries a sentence of up to five years."
