More lives lost to coronavirus in South Yorkshire as 19 patients die

South Yorkshire’s coronavirus death toll has risen again after 19 more patients in the county succumbed to the disease, the latest NHS figures have revealed.

Five more patients being treated for the deadly bug have passed away in Sheffield’s hospitals, bringing the total in the city to 445.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, Doncaster is nearing a grim milestone after there were four more fatalities in the town- where the death toll now stands at 394.

In Rotherham there were six more deaths, taking the total to 299 and in Barnsley there have now been 270 deaths after four more were recorded.

Across England, a further 222 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total deaths in hospitals to 38,334.

Patients were aged between 30 and 99 years old. All except 5 (aged 30 to 81 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Their familes have been informed.
