Police officers were called to the Co-Op on White Lane, Gleadless, at around 3.45 am on Monday, February 22, following reports of a burglary.

The store shutters were by forced open by a number of intruders and a bag was filled with cigarettes during the early morning raid.

The bag later was found abandoned a short distance away.

While police officers were at the scene a transit van pulled up and attempts were made to collect the bag.

A police chase was mounted and three men, aged 48, 47 and 43, were all arrested on suspicion of burglary, failing to stop for officers and driving without insurance.

They have been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
