Men released under investigation after arrests in armed police operation in Sheffield

Two men arrested in an armed police operation after a report of a shooting in Sheffield have been released under investigation.

The men were both arrested on Sunday night after a report of a shooting and car theft on Carwood Road, Burngreave.

It triggered an armed response and officers were deployed to the scene, where a search of the area failed to find any evidence of gunfire.

The stolen car was tracked down to Hoole Street, Walkley, and a gun and drugs were found inside.

An 18-year man was arrested nearby on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm and drugs offences.

The 28-year-old man who dialled 999 to report the shooting and car theft was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and being concerned in the supply of drugs.

A helicopter and search dogs were used in the police operation.
