Two men have been charged with assault following an attack on a French-speaking Cameroon national in a pub in Rotherham town centre.

Adrian Buckley, aged 44, of Houndsfield Road, East Herringthorpe and Aiden Farnsworth, 21, of Langdon Walk, Kimberworth Park, are alleged to have attacked the 29-year-old at the New County pub.

They are alleged to have attacked the man in the pub’s beer garden and again as he attempted to leave the pub on Bridgegate on May 3.

Police said the victim needed stitches to his lip.

Buckley and Farnsworth, who are on bail, are due to stand trial at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court on October 16.

Police officers investigating the incident believe there were a number of people in the area who may have seen the violence or tried to intervene.
