Match ban for football fan

A FOOTBALL fan has been banned from matches for three years for a ‘kung fu’ kick after a game in Chesterfield.

Michael Greenop, aged 20, was among Notts County fans being escorted by police to the railway station on October 15 when he reacted to a Spireites fan making gestures.

Chesterfield magistrates heard he and another man broke away and ran across the road to attack the fan.

Becky Mahon, prosecuting, said: “The defendant jumped and kicked him kung fu-style and the other male grabbed him in a headlock and punched him.”

The victim and the other offender ran.

Greenop, of Beeston, Nottingham, admitted using threatening behaviour and was sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid work, a three-year football banning order, with £85 costs.
