Man who grew cannabis in Sheffield home is spared jail

A man who ran a cannabis growing operation in his home has received a suspended prison sentence.

Ricky Thornton, aged 33, of Stradbroke Road, which runs between Richmond and Woodhouse, was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for 18 months, following a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to the production of cannabis and being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug.

The court heard how on December 27, 2018, officers searched Thornton’s home and found a cannabis cultivation set-up, a quantity of cash and drugs paraphernalia.

PC Sarah Morton, who led the investigation, said: “We are committed to tackling drug offences in our communities and removing drugs from the streets.

“Information from the public is a vital part of how we effectively tackle this sort of criminality, and I would urge anyone with concerns or information to report them to us.”
